Head Coach

 

Barry Kitrell

Barry Kitrell was named Head Coach in May of 2003.  Coach Kitrell calls the offensive plays for varsity games.  Barry was a tremendous player for the Bluejays under Steve Daeges, Barry went on to play fullback for Tom Osborne at the University of Nebraska in the mid-1980’s. Kitrell is the Co-leader of our local F.C.A. chapter. Barry owns and operates a local fitness club, “The Brickhouse”.

Reed Schwartz

The Falls City H.S. and University of Nebraska alum had served as the offensive and defensive line coach for 6 years before becoming Offensive Coordinator in 2003.  In addition to  coordinating the offense, Schwartz coaches both the offensive and defensive lines.  Before coaching, Reed served as an officer in the U.S. Navy. Schwartz also coaches the J.V. team, and has led the Bluejays to three undefeated seasons in the last five years (2002, 2005, 2006).

Nate Tonjes

Nate has been a member of the Bluejay football staff for six years.  A graduate of Pender H.S. and a former football player at Midland Lutheran College. In addition to assisting with Offensive Coordination (passing game), Coach Tonjes also coaches the Defensive Ends and the Quarterbacks.  Nate assists Coach Schwartz with the JV team.

 Ryan Thompson

In 2004, Ryan was the head football coach at Prague H.S.  A graduate of St. Edward H.S., the former 8-man star quarterback coached with the Bluejays in 2002 and 2003 as a student teacher.  In addition to Defensive Coordinator, Ryan also coaches the receivers and defensive backs.  Ryan also serves as a coach for the Freshmen/C team.

Evan Welch

Evan was a football and track star for the Bluejays in 2001-2002.  Welch went on to compete collegiately for and graduate from Nebraska Wesleyan University.  In 2004, Welch came back to his alma mater as a volunteer assistant to coach defensive backs and receivers.
