APPLICATION PROCEDURES

We are pleased to know of your interest in the Ashland-Greenwood Public Schools.  The Application and Background Check Forms are downloadable from the district web-site www.agps.org by clicking on Employment Opportunities. Please complete the Application and Background Check Forms, print and sign it and return it to us promptly.  Other items necessary to complete your application file include a letter of application, an updated resume, copy of your teaching certificate and credentials (or references and college transcripts).  Also, all teacher applicants must have, or be qualified for, an active Nebraska Teaching Certificate.

The Ashland-Greenwood Public Schools selection process involves the following steps:

  1. Posting of Specific Vacancies.  No teacher applications will be accepted until a vacancy is posted/advertised.  Vacancies will be posted on the district web-site www.agps.org.  Normally vacancies are also advertised in and edition of the Sunday Omaha World-Herald and are posted at the Teach In Nebraska website (http://www.nebraskaeducationjobs.com). All positions remain open until filled.

  1. Complete Applicant File.  A file is established for each applicant and will be complete only when the following information is received: 1) Letter of Application indicating the specific vacancy for which you are applying.  2) Resume.  3) Application and Background Check Forms.  4) Credentials or personal portfolio containing references and transcripts 5) Copy of Teaching Certificate [if available] and 6) Teacher-Insight On-Line Interview.  Application materials should be mailed, faxed (402) 944-3310, or delivered to Ashland-Greenwood Public Schools Superintendent’s Office, 1225 Clay Street, Ashland, NE 68003.  Files remain on active status for 12 months.  NOTE: All teacher applicants will be required to take an on-line Teacher Insight interview as part of the application process.  Information on this interview will be sent after receiving your letter of application.

  1. Completed File Review.  Files should be completed to be reviewed for possible interviews.  References are checked and selected candidates are invited for a specific vacancy.

  1. Interview.  The interview will include a review of previous academic and teaching experience, a structured interview and a school visit which may include an interview by the building principal and selected teachers. As a part of the interview process applicants are encouraged to bring a video on VHS or DVD of themselves teaching an actual class.  If the applicant does not have a teaching video available they may be asked to teach an abbreviated lesson and write a short essay. The lead interviewer will inform candidates of any special preparation at the time the interview is established.

  1. Appointment.  Candidates selected for teaching positions are notified by phone and given a specified amount of time to respond (usually one day).  If an offer is accepted, a contract is submitted for approval by the Ashland-Greenwood Board of Education.

  1. Notification of Status.  Because of the number of candidates, we are unable to notify each applicant of his or her current status.  An applicant, however, may always call the district office (402) 944-2128 regarding the status of any vacancy.  Applicants invited for interviews for a specific vacancy are informed of the final selection by phone.  All other applicants will be notified by letter after the vacancy is filled.
