Rights and Responsibilities of Professional Personnel

It is the intent of the board of education to guarantee to its professional employees all civil and legal rights and responsibilities which are provided by federal or state statute, by the decrees of courts with jurisdiction, by policies of the board and by rules and regulations as stated in personnel handbooks provided to professional employees.  Such rights shall include freedom from discrimination on the basis of age, gender, race, religion, disability or country of national origin and freedom of speech.

All professional employees are expected to act in accordance with professional codes of ethics as stated by professional associations in which they may hold voluntary membership and as specified by law or by rules and regulations of the Nebraska Department of Education and the Professional Practices Commission of the State of Nebraska.  Within the guidelines of professional codes of ethics, professional employees of the district are vested with academic freedom; academic freedom, however, is not an absolute and must be exercised with concern for a commitment to democratic principles and methods; a concern for the welfare, growth and development of pupils; the use of recognized methods of scholarship; and, the application of good taste and judgment in the selection and use of materials and methods of instruction.
