Substitute Teachers
A substitute teacher will
be a person fully qualified to instruct in the schools and who is employed for
short periods of time in the absence of the regular teacher because of illness
or professional duties.
Substitute teachers shall
be considered short term or long term.
Short term substitutes are those who serve in the same position 10 days
or less. Long term substitutes shall be
those who serve in the same position more than 10 days in succession. Short term substitutes shall be paid at the
per day rate as established by the Board. Long term substitutes shall be paid
at the per day rate as established by the Board beginning with the 11th day of
continuous employment.
The Board of education
shall approve the list of teachers who may serve as substitute teachers in the
school district. The building principal
shall be responsible for assigning substitute teachers. The Board of Education shall approve upon the
recommendation of the Principal all long term substitute assignments. In cases of emergencies the building
principal may make the assignment of the long term substitute without approval
but shall seek board approval for the continuation of the assignment at its next
regularly scheduled meeting.
All substitutes must have
valid teaching certificate. Substitutes
shall not be eligible for welfare plans or fringe benefits.
