Policy
Students
Examination
and Grading
Rules and
regulations which pertain to the examination and grading of pupils shall be
stated in the handbook prepared by each principal for the attendance center or
centers supervised by the principal; rules and regulations for examination and
grading of pupils shall be reviewed and approved by the superintendent and the
board as part of the annual review of student handbooks specified by board
policy (5100).
It is the intent
of the board to issue a diploma to all pupils who complete a prescribed course
of study; the transcript of pupil performance, rather than the diploma, shall
be the official record of the classes, courses or programs the pupil was
enrolled in and shall show the reporting of pupil progress (5127).
Grades issued to
pupils in any class, course or program shall be a symbolic representation of
student achievement with regard to instruction provided with the class, course
or program. Use of grades for disciplinary purposes, e.g., reduction of grades
as punishment for improper social conduct, is expressly prohibited.
Rules and
regulations which pertain to assigning of credit shall be stated in the
handbook prepared by the principal and shall be reviewed and approved by the
superintendent and the board as a part of the annual review of student
handbooks.
