Students
Dress
Student dress and
grooming is the responsibility of students and their parents or guardians.
General standards of
dress and grooming include the expectations that student dress and grooming
will be reasonable, will he in accord with community standards of decency, will
not be harmful to the health and safety of the student or of others, and will
not be disruptive to the learning environment.
If the dress or grooming
of a student is considered to be inappropriate, the student should be referred
to the building principal or other persons designated by the building principal
and a judgment will be made about the appropriateness of dress or
grooming. The parents or guardians of
any pupil who is judged to be inappropriately dressed or groomed will be
notified and appropriate corrections in dress or grooming will be expected.
In the event that a
student is judged to be inappropriately dressed or groomed and the student's
parents or guardians disagree with the judgment of the principal or the
principal's designee, a review of the principal's judgment may be sought by the
parents or guardians as provided by board policy (1312).
Specific standards of
dress and grooming shall be stated in the student handbook and reviewed and
approved annually by the superintendent and board of education.
