It is the intent of the
board that the superintendent of schools shall serve as the curriculum director
of the school district and shall administer the development, maintenance and
renewal of a positive educational program designed to meet the needs of
students, the wishes of the community, and the policies of the board.
The superintendent of
schools shall direct building principals in the development of both short-range
and long-range plans for the curricula and instructional practices provided
within their buildings and for the articulation of K-12 instruction offered by
the district. Principals are specifically charged with the preparation and
implementation of plans for the continuous monitoring and maintenance of
improvement of curricula and instructional practices for the buildings or
programs they are assigned to supervise.
Curricula and services
offered to pupils, and instructional practices used in the school shall be
directed toward the attainment of the following general goals:
1. The
personal, social, emotional, academic and career development of students.
2. The
development of responsible citizens, i.e., citizens who accept responsibility
as individuals for the nature and consequences of their own behaviors and who
also seek to contribute to the health, safety and general welfare of the
communities in which they live and work.
3. To provide
programs of instruction which permit each individual to develop knowledge and
skill commensurate with the individual student's abilities and relevant to
their aspirations.
