Inclement Weather
Under considerations of
severe weather, the school district will take steps to protect the safety of
students. In some cases, classes will be cancelled due to weather conditions
which create hazards to the safety of students traveling to and from school. In
cases where weather conditions pose substantial hazards to the safety of
students, the superintendent of schools will cancel classes during such weather
conditions.
The safety of children
traveling to and from school is the responsibility of parents. Parents may
elect to keep children at home during severe weather conditions.
Classes may also be
cancelled under such conditions that it is impossible to have classes due to
the inability of the school to remove snow which creates traffic hazards and
problems with adequate parking for both students and staff. In such cases,
classes will be cancelled either for the entire day or for a time period which
would permit the adequate removal of snow from sidewalks, drives and parking
areas.
Due to the importance of
maintaining a daily sequence of instruction, every effort will be made to have
classes regardless of weather conditions. However, under those circumstances in
which the safety of staff and students is at risk, decisions will be made to
cancel classes. The superintendent of schools, or designee, is responsible for
making decisions regarding the cancellation of classes and the closing of
buildings.
It is general policy of
the district that whenever classes are cancelled, the school buildings are
closed to student use for that day unless specific permission is given by the
superintendent for student use. Upon the
announcement that buildings are closed, faculty members will not report for
duty unless otherwise specifically notified to do so.
