Interscholastic
Activities
Interscholastic
activities are recognized as an integral part of the school activity program.
As such, they should justify their existence as educational experiences which
promote good sportsmanship, fair play, development of leadership potential, and
good school citizenship.
The board approves
interscholastic, competitive athletics for grades 7-12. The teaching of the values of character,
self-discipline, respect, honesty, responsibility and sacrifice is important.
Partial financial support
of interscholastic activities will be from budgeted funds, thus freeing the
program from total dependence upon gate receipts. The district will work toward making
activities self-supporting.
Budgets and subsidies for
the growth and development of the overall athletic program may be recommended
by the athletic director for board of education consideration. Realizing the
support of the community and its patrons is vital in the development of a
progressive athletic program, the costs of tickets and admissions to events
will avoid becoming prohibitive.
Those students not able
to compete on an interscholastic level of competition will be offered alternate
programs of competition when demand warrants.
