Policy
Instruction
Public Performances
and Exhibitions
Participation in
community celebrations, patriotic observances, or other special events by
bands, choral groups, athletic teams, or other student groups is recommended by
the board as a means for establishment of positive relations between the school
district and the community.
School groups are not to
be used to promote partisan politics, sectarian religious views, or commercial
enterprises. The board does not
interpret that participation in a holiday observance that has religious
overtones as automatically a promotion of a sectarian religious view. However, no student will be required to
participate in any religious holiday observance and will not have any grade
lowered or be otherwise punished for exercising the right of non-participation.
Schools are urged to
cooperate with any group or groups having promotion of the common
interest/welfare of all school-aged children as their purpose, provided that
youth of every race, religion, nationality, and social status can benefit
equally.
Authority to approve
participation in events of the nature described in the above paragraph is
delegated by the board to the superintendent.
