Alternative Education
The Ashland-Greenwood Public
Schools believes that every student is important and capable and further it is
committed to each individual student’s success.
It shall therefore be the policy of the district that the building
Principal or classroom teacher shall provide a community based or home based
alternative educational plan for students who have been expelled or suspended
from school. This plan may include but
shall not be limited to:
1. Placement in an alternative school, class or program;
2. Placement in an alternative work/apprenticeship
program;
3. Attendance in an alternative evening or day school
program;
4. Providing independent study coursework;
5. Providing and allowing the make up of homework
assignments; or
6. Providing a tutor for study away from the regular
school setting.
Students will be able to
continue to earn academic credit while participating in the designated
alternative based education class, program or school. The provision for earning credit shall be
provided for in the student handbook that shall be approved annually by the
Board of Education. The Board further
directs the Superintendent of Schools or his or her designee to establish
alternative education programs in compliance with state law.
