Guidelines Pertaining to Overdue, Damaged or Lost

Instructional Materials

The following procedure applies to library books:

  1. Lost or completely destroyed books.  If books are lost or completely destroyed, the student will pay the full replacement cost of the book as long as the book was in good condition when it was checked out.

For books which are in only fair to poor condition, the replacement cost may be depreciated up to 50 percent of replacement cost at the direction of the library/media specialist or principal.  At no time will the fine be less than 50 percent of the replacement cost.

Replacement cost will be obtained from either the current edition of Books in Print or a recognized current book vendor catalogue.

  1. Damaged books. If a book is damaged, the student will pay a fine assessed according to the extent of damage and cost of repair as determined by the library/media specialist or principal.  If a damaged book requires rebinding, the fine will include the rebinding cost.

Students will be held responsible for all school property which they use, and should reimburse the school for equipment and materials lost or abused.
